China's non-ferrous metal output up 3.3% in first 8 months

BEIJING — China's production of 10 major non-ferrous metals rose 3.3 percent year-on-year to 39.89 million metric tons in the first eight months of 2020, official data showed.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the pace of growth accelerated further from a rise of 3.1 percent in the January-July period and a rise of 2.9 percent in the first half of the year.

The 10 major non-ferrous metals are copper, aluminum, lead, zinc, nickel, tin, antimony, mercury, magnesium and titanium.

The production of electrolytic aluminum, which accounted for nearly two-thirds of the total output, rose 2.3 percent from the previous year to 24.3 million tons in the first eight months.

In August alone, the combined output of the 10 metals hit 5.29 million tons, up 6.9 percent from a year earlier.
