TIANJIN — The container throughput of Tianjin Port, China's major coastal port in Tianjin Municipality, exceeded 2 million TEUs in May, setting a new monthly record.
The figure represented a year-on-year increase of over 20 percent, indicating a more dynamic economy in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, said Tianjin Port (Group) Co Ltd.
The company attributed the throughput growth to its cooperation with major ports across the country and efforts to maintain the smooth operation of the logistics chain.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic-induced impacts, Tianjin Port handled 18.35 million TEUs in 2020, up 6.1 percent from the previous year, ranking among the top 10 in the world.
