The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) is an organization under the State Council in charge of the country’s public security.
The responsibilities of public security agencies in China include:
To prevent, stop and investigate criminal activities;
To fight against terrorist activities;
To maintain stability and order;
To administrate transport, fire fighting and dangerous objects;
To administrate household registration, identification cards, nationality as well as entry, status and exit of Chinese and foreign nationals;
To maintain border security;
To protect persons, venues and facilities as designated by the state;
To manage gatherings, parades and demonstrations;
To supervise public information networks;
To supervise security concerning state organizations, social organizations, enterprises, institutions, and large construction sites;
To guide community security commissions.
