A coordinated, cooperative, and stable China-US relationship serves as the fundamental guiding principle for bilateral and military ties between China and the United States, said State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe in a phone call with US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper on Nov 5.

Win-win cooperation is the only correct choice for China and the US, said Wei, adding that the militaries of both sides should put in place the consensus reached by the heads of the two countries and continue to further the military ties as a “stabilizer” of the wider China-US relationship.

Wei also declared China’s position on the South China Sea and Taiwan, as well as issues concerning Hong Kong and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, among others.

While offering congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Esper said he hopes that the two countries could enhance strategic communication to jointly push forward their military relations.
